People Power

Maker Market at AirdrieFEST with Kellie Carter Designs

Volunteering for community has always been heart work for me. Through the actions of volunteering and understanding how impactful it is to society, I turned my career to dedicate to serving and empowering others in building resilient communities. PEOPLE POWER is the strongest asset in a community and the greatest strength. It is called SOCIAL CAPITAL.

As we talk a lot about infrastructure - hard infrastructure or buildings, but it is important to also talk about people, or the 'soft' infrastructure. When looking at a community, the most value lies in its people - not buildings. This area has the most impact for creating change.

Over the years, I have been working in the space as a community builder for the arts, culture, businesses, social organizations, and tourism, building capacity in our community champions. At AirdrieFEST, I met up with a wonderful friend and community builder - Kellie! She is an example of building capacity in our community leaders, building solutions to strengthen the fabric of community.

In being in service to others, it is about raising each other up. I am so proud of all our community champions out there! You all inspire and empower me as well. Thank you for all you do!
