Vision
“To be an advocate and ally for Airdrie, as a transformative leader, and empower our community in becoming catalysts for change - leading solutions that build resilience, foster prosperity, and create a strong sense of belonging to enhance quality of life for all through community connection.”

Why Kristen?
I understand being a Councillor is about more than making decisions - it’s about being an engaged listener and staying curious. It means paying attention, noticing where people struggle, and experiencing our community with intention. That involves walking alongside residents, observing how they interact with their surroundings, and asking them to share their perspectives. It’s about bringing together many voices to shape creative, practical solutions that reflect the concerns and passions of Airdrie residents. I also understand, by being a leader, it's not about having all the answers.

My work as a community developer has given me firsthand experience in building meaningful change - from transforming alleyways into play park spaces to developing programs that support youth at risk. In describing a community being an iceberg, we see the tip with immediate needs, but underneath, is the largest formation, which I understand how the needs of a growing city connect with pillars of sustainability, interaction with municipal systems and processes, how communities are built and regenerated, and how the real strength of solutions comes from people working together.

At its heart, this work is about community. It’s about coming together to face challenges and making Airdrie a city we’re all proud to call home. As your elected Councillor, my role would be to open the tools of governance, create pathways for collaboration, and ensure residents have a clear voice in shaping the future of our city.

Why Now?

I have always believed in servant leadership. For many years, I’ve been working behind the scenes, serving alongside so many Airdronians who give back to our community every day. I know you, I’ve worked beside you, and I am one of you.

"We seek not to be understood, but to understand each other. Not to be served, but to live as servants to those around us."

Now, I feel it’s time to step forward - to take that same spirit of service onto a new platform as a transformative leader and a catalyst for change. I have wanted to run for Council for a while, and over the past decade I’ve gained the experience, knowledge, and tools to make a meaningful difference in decision-making towards policy, programs, projects, and services.

Airdrie has been growing rapidly since I first moved here in 2004. Growth is part of our story, but it brings systemic challenges. Fast growth has created real pressures: limited affordable housing, stretched infrastructure and services, higher costs, and fewer amenities. With this rapid growth, there is a long delay in catching up infrastructure, in addition, it can off set the needs of the human experience within community - building relationships, making connections, and upscaling people power. These challenges impact our quality of life, which should always be at the heart of community building.

This is why leadership matters. True leadership isn’t just about those at the top - it’s about empowering people at every level. By fostering community leadership, we strengthen our shared values, vision, and purpose. Together, we can create a city that grows with intention, resilience, and care for everyone who calls Airdrie home.
"Often, communities choose leaders because of their integrity, their accomplishments, and their specific attributes and skills. These leaders serve because of their commitment to the community, not because of any desire to have position or power”.
